Calgary businesses play a vital role in the Canadian economy, driving growth and creating jobs. Over the years, these businesses have continued to expand, adapting to the changing market demands and leveraging new technologies to stay competitive. Digital technologies are transforming virtually every industry and market, and businesses across Calgary must keep up with these changes to stay ahead of the competition.
Businesses must embrace these technologies, from e-commerce and cloud computing to artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to remain relevant in today’s market. However, adopting these technologies can be a significant burden for SMEs, which often have limited resources and funding. Recognizing SMEs’ critical role in the economy, the Canadian government has launched the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) to help SMEs embrace digital transformation.
What Is the Canadian Digital Adoption Program (CDAP)?
The Canadian Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) is a government-funded initiative to support Calgary businesses in their digital transformation efforts. The program provides funding in the form of financial contributions to eligible SMEs to help cover the costs of adopting digital technologies. The CDAP aims to ensure that Canadian SMEs remain competitive in today’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
In partnership with the BDC (Business Development Bank of Canada), the Canadian government is investing $4 billion to help businesses throughout Calgary, Okotoks, Sundre, Red Deer, High River, Cochrane, Airdrie, and across Alberta overcome the financial barriers associated with digital transformation. For eligible businesses, the CDAP will provide a portion of the costs associated with digital transformation, allowing them to make strategic investments in the technologies they need to stay competitive. This program may be the perfect solution if your business is looking to embrace the latest digital technologies.
Two grant options are offered through CDAP:
- Boost Your Business Technology Grant
- Grow Your Business Online Grant
Who Can Apply for the Grants?
CDAP could be a great opportunity for your business, with two streams available depending on size and revenue. The Grow Your Business Online Grant is designed to help smaller companies and start-ups get on their feet and make the most of their digital presence. On the other hand, the Boost Your Business Technology Grant is tailored toward Alberta businesses that require more advanced technological solutions. Businesses can apply for funding through either of these streams to help them achieve the digital transformation they need.

The Importance of Digital Transformation for SMEs
Digital transformation is critical for Southern Alberta and Central Alberta businesses in today’s rapidly changing business landscape. It can help SMEs improve their competitiveness through the use of digital technologies. Digital transformation enables SMEs to automate routine tasks, streamline processes, and access new market opportunities.
This can result in cost savings, increased productivity, and improved customer satisfaction. With the increasing use of online platforms and the internet, having a strong online presence and digital strategy has become essential for businesses to reach and engage with customers. These are all key reasons why SMEs need digital transformation.
